I downloaded the latest Linux ATI drivers (8.25.18) and guess what. They work! I could never get them to work under 9.2 but now it all seems great. For those trying the same thing the best method is to use the "Generate Distribution Specific Driver Package". This will create a SuSE 10.1 .rpm file and you then install that.

# rpm -ivh fglrx64_6_9_0_SUSE101-8.25.18-1.x86_64.rpm

Once it is installed you need to reconfigure your graphics options using the following command:

# sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx"

There's no need to try to enable 3D support via SaX2. It's already enabled automatically when SaX2 is starting.

Then run glxgears and see what frame rate you get. Before the driver install I was getting
about 150 FPS but after I get 2300 FPS! That is a bit increase!!!!

Well SuSE 10.1 is out... I have been using SuSE 9.2 for what seems like ever but I finally took the plunge and upgrade to 10.1... To be honest I didn't trust 10.0 as it was the first "open" version and I wanted to let things settle down a bit.

First impressions... WOW!

Big changes (for me atleast as I am jumping several versions here). It all looks good.

Next step, try and get my ATI card working with OpenGL. More on that later!
